Black Bean Patty Burger

Black Beans are highly nutritious as they are an excellent source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. A cup of black beans can give you about 15 grams of protein.

These patties can be prepared in advance, may be a Sunday evening, so you are all sorted for the mornings. It just takes about 20 mins to prepare these.

INGREDIENTS

Black Beans - 1 tin (15 oz or 400 grams of boiled beans)
Onion - 1 finely chopped
Green Bell Peppers - ½ finely chopped
Salt
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Ginger-garlic paste - ½ tsp (optional)

  • Drain away all the liquid in the black beans.
  • Transfer the beans into a mixing bowl and mash them.
  • Add finely chopped onions, bell peppers, salt, red chilli powder and ginger-garlic paste and mix it.
  • Make small portions of the mixture and shape it into a patty. (as shown above)
  • Line a baking tray with foil or butter paper, grease some oil and place the patties. Drizzle oil on top.
  • Place the tray in pre-heated oven (375 deg F) and bake for 10 mins.
  • Then, remove the tray from oven, flip the patties and bake for another 10 mins.
  • Allow to cool and store in an air-tight container and place in fridge. These will stay good for more than a week.

Spread butter, tomato sauce (or coriander paste) on the bread or burger bun.
Place sliced cucumber, tomato, Black Bean Patty and lettuce leaves.
Top it with a bread slice and enjoy!

     Tips:

  1. While preparing the patty mixture, if there is water content, add ½ cup of bread-crumbs into it.
  2. You can substitute Red kidney beans (Rajma) to prepare the patties.
